iPad Apps for Performing Arts Programs (Make $ Using Your iPad to Perform)

So just in case you have not been watching out for apps that are on sale I’ve got a few for you! Of course many of these are apps that inspire me to find some way to use my iPad in new and creative ways as a musician, teacher and performer.

I have always toyed with the idea of having live video feeds of some sort playing on a screen while my performances are going on. In fact back a few years ago we did set up and run a visualizer program that responded to the live audio on stage. We projected that onto the large screen behind the band. It added one more dimension to the performance. Most of the audience was not impressed though, in fact I never bothered again. But what if we had actual video that we could mess around with instead of just a visualizer like you find in iTunes?

vjayalgoriddum has just such and app, it is called vjay and is available for both Screen Shot 2013-12-20 at 6.27.36 PMiPad as well as Screen Shot 2013-12-20 at 6.27.42 PMiPhone. The app currently is on sale for the great price of free down from the normal $9.99!

Here is the description from their blog….
“Mix and scratch your favorite music videos from iTunes or combine songs from your music library with personal video footage into an interactive audio visual experience. Or use your iPad’s built-in camera to create your very own music video live. vjay lets you get creative with your content, display directly to a TV, stream wirelessly via Apple TV, or record your performances live to share on your favorite social channels.”

What does that give us as performers? A chance to allow students one more way to let their creativity flow! Let a couple of students have the app and allow them the freedom to put together a bunch of video clips before the big show, let them shoot some live video at the concert or in the hallway as people are coming into the venue. Then during the performance you can let them “perform” their creation while your band/choir performs the music! How much fun this could turn into!

djay shotOf course I did mention a way to make money using your iPad though, algoriddum has another great app called djay. This app is available for Screen Shot 2013-12-20 at 6.36.26 PM iPad, Screen Shot 2013-12-20 at 6.35.39 PMiPhone and also for the djay for MacMac! Currently the  iPad version is on sale for $4.99 down from the normal $9.99! Not quite the savings as the vjay app but considering that a student could easily make $150 – $300 per 3 hour dance I think this is very fair – (yes, that was a bit sarcastic! Some apps are worth the $10 price tag people come on!)

Our school has dances left and right and it has always bothered me that we actually pay really good money to a local D-Jay for their services when I have all the equipment and we have students that could do the same thing this guy does but it would allow our students to make that money for their own pocket! Until this year that is! This year we have been having one of our students DJ the middle school dances using this app. The students love having one of their own as the DJ and it is a great source of income for that student. With this app the final outcome is actually better than what the local company provides because quite seriously all he brings is a couple of CD players and he goes back and forth between the two.

Here is the description from their website….
“djay transforms your iPad into a full–featured DJ system. Seamlessly integrated with your music library, djay gives you direct access to all your favorite songs and playlists on your iPad. You can perform live, record mixes on–the–go, or enable Automix mode to let djay create a seamless mix for you automatically. Whether you are a professional DJ or a beginner who just loves to play with music, djay offers you the most intuitive yet powerful DJ experience on an iPad.”
